Leaders in faith communities have a unique and critical role to play in ending childhood obesity and hunger.
These organizations are trusted in their communities and can motivate people to take action. More than 120 million people in the United States attend religious services regularly, providing opportunities for sharing information and organizing initiatives to combat malnutrition and obesity.
Baldwin County has approximately 70 churches within its borders. In an attempt to use this sizable number of community members as a way to bring about awareness and response to the childhood obesity crisis, we offer Live Healthy in Faith toolkits to congregations of all sizes ways to help them develop health ministries and related wellness policies around physical activity and nutrition. Church leaders are trained to implement the CDC Diabetes Prevention Program.
